PIK Vrbovec and Elog together for sustainability

The PIK Vrbovec company, as one of the most important meat industries in Croatia and the region, implements demanding criteria for meat processing and production in its business and applies the highest hygiene standards that guarantee food safety and quality.

Exceptional attention is paid to the implementation of environmental management, energy efficiency, health and safety of all process participants, according to the principles of environmental protection within the concept of sustainable development. Introducing innovation in production and recognizing the benefits and advantages of using returnable plastic packaging, PIK Vrbovec replaced its previous meat packaging with reusable packaging from the company E-log.

By replacing cardboard and traditional plastic packaging (butcher's boxes) with reusable packaging (RPC) of the company Elog Pik Vrbovec realizes advantages through several segments of the process in terms of sustainability and environmental responsibility.

RPCs are made of durable polypropylene which is easy to clean and disinfect, which is extremely important in the food industry. Improved hygiene and safety enable better management of product hygiene, reducing the risk of contamination and providing safety for consumers.

RPCs are strong and resistant to damage during transport and storage. Better product protection, especially in the food industry, ensures the preservation of product freshness and quality. During transport on the conveyor belt, they move faster, and simple handling contributes to the simplification and acceleration of the production processes themselves.

RPCs are designed so that their standardized size and shape facilitate stacking and storage during transport, which can result in lower transport costs and lower GHG emissions. Also, considering that they are completely stackable and foldable, they enable better utilization of storage and transport space and realize significant savings in return logistics.

Using RPC leads to a reduction in the amount of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or in the environment. RPC is used multiple times in use, and after a longer period of use, it is 100% recycled into new products.

Thanks to their multiple roles and being made of durable material, the need for the production of new packaging is reduced, which contributes to the reduction of the total consumption of energy and natural resources.
